Our view in brief
The Dome (Gen 2) is the more reasonable of the two Dome models if one large pizza or two small ones are enough. “Reasonable” is relative: it costs €1,999.99, weighs 62 kg and requires a permanent installation.
We would choose it before the XL for a household that also wants to roast, cook with wood or prepare food in cast iron. We would not choose it solely to make four pizzas at the weekend. An Arc costs far less and requires less infrastructure.
A large oven even before considering the XL
The Dome is 826 mm wide, 652 mm deep and 986 mm high with its flue. Its 62 kg weight explains Gozney’s recommendation: four people to unpack it.
You therefore need to decide on the stand before ordering. Also consider the route from the delivery vehicle to the terrace. A step, tight turn or improvised table can quickly become the real problem in the project.
One large pizza or two small ones
Gozney states a capacity of one 16-inch pizza or two 10-inch pizzas. For one person, that is already generous. Two pizzas mean watching two bases, two crusts and several turns while the next ones are being prepared.
The removable 30 mm floor and the air and stone temperature displays are interesting on paper. An infrared thermometer remains the most direct way to check the surface just before launching. Without a shared independent protocol, we do not turn these specifications into a promise about recovery or throughput.
Three fuels change the organisation
The Dome takes wood, charcoal and propane. Gas suits a straightforward session. Wood and charcoal require dry storage, ash removal and more attention at the fire.
The right scenario is therefore not “I might do everything one day”. Ask which fuel you will use three times out of four. If the answer is always propane and only for pizza, compare the Arc XL before paying for the Dome’s versatility.
The XL is not automatically the better deal
The Dome XL adds €500, 11 kg and 12 cm of width. It holds more small pizzas and dishes, but the extra surface alone does not speed up service. The useful question remains how many people will prepare and cook together.
For one person or a couple who entertain occasionally, the standard Dome already looks very large. The XL becomes more logical when several pans, several pizzas or several cooks are the rule rather than the exception.
Who it is for, and when to avoid it
The Dome (Gen 2) suits a permanent outdoor kitchen, the pleasure of switching fuels and dishes that go beyond pizza. Avoid it if space is tight, if the oven must move or if your real use fits inside an Arc.
