Our view in brief

Buy the Dome XL (Gen 2) if you are building a real outdoor kitchen and its large surface will be used by several people or for complete meals. At 73 kg and almost 95 cm wide, it is not going away after dinner.

We would rule it out for a family making four pizzas one at a time. The standard Dome costs €500 less, weighs 11 kg less and can already hold a large pizza. The XL becomes rational when you know exactly what will occupy the extra space.

Check the space before the capacity

The oven is 946 mm wide, 697 mm deep and 997 mm high with its flue. Gozney states a weight of 73 kg without packaging and recommends four people to lift it out of the box.

This is not an appliance for a lightweight trolley. You need to plan the stand, the clearances in the manual, the route from the delivery point and the space for the people working in front. If those answers are not already clear, the purchase is premature.

Three pizzas also require several pairs of hands

Gozney states a capacity of one 18-inch pizza, two 12-inch pizzas or three 10-inch pizzas. These configurations describe what fits inside the chamber. They do not prove that one person can stretch, top, launch and turn three pizzas without neglecting one.

The large surface becomes more credible with a small team: one person on the dough, one on toppings and one at the oven. It is also useful for several dishes or pans, which better matches the idea of a complete outdoor kitchen.

Wood, charcoal and gas: choose the process, not the slogan

The Dome XL takes wood, charcoal and propane. Gas makes ignition and adjustment simpler. Wood and charcoal add fire, ash and flue maintenance. That versatility has value only if you genuinely plan to change fuel.

The console shows air and floor temperatures, a timer and two meat probes. These are practical reference points for long cooks. They do not replace learning the hot zones or checking the stone directly with an infrared thermometer before a pizza.

The extra €500 over the standard Dome

The Dome XL was listed at €2,499.99 on 24 August 2026, compared with €1,999.99 for the Dome (Gen 2). The difference mainly buys 12 cm of width, 11 kg and more stated surface area.

We would choose the XL for frequent large gatherings, several cooks or dishes that genuinely occupy the chamber. For one pizza at a time and a few roasts, the standard Dome already looks generously sized.

Who it is for, and when to avoid it

The Dome XL suits a permanent outdoor kitchen, a budget that already includes accessories and regular use of several zones. Avoid it if you are looking for a first oven, if only one person cooks or if the terrace does not yet have its permanent stand.
