The easiest gas format to recommend
The Koda 2 occupies an interesting middle ground in the Ooni range. Its stated 35 cm space leaves more margin than a 30 cm oven without moving up to the 30 or 43 kg of the larger models. At 16 kg it remains movable, but bringing it inside after every evening will soon become a chore.
We would recommend it for learning the movements of Neapolitan pizza without adding the management of a wood fire. However, nobody can guarantee a fifteen-minute heat-up or a perfect pizza in sixty seconds. The published sessions vary too much in weather, measurement and baking method.
The Which Ooni oven should you choose in 2026? guide places this model alongside the other formats.
The table matters as much as the stated 35 cm
The Koda 2 runs on propane and is intended for outdoor use. It accepts pizzas up to 35 cm, weighs 16 kg and uses a 15 mm stone. Ooni publishes dimensions of 545 × 472 × 333 mm.
The inch measurements shown on the same page do not all match the metric values. A few centimetres are enough for an oven to overhang a table. Measure the location with a margin and confirm its depth before purchase.
Three timers and no honest average
Three published videos exceed 400°C on the stone. To monitor this at home, the useful reference remains an infrared thermometer. The videos do not use the same protocol.
| Published conditions | Observed reading | What it can tell us |
|---|---|---|
| Rain, air at around 13°C | Over 427°C after 20 minutes, around 482°C after 30 minutes | Mild, damp weather does not prevent high heat |
| Air at 2°C, oven initially covered with snow | 400°C at 25 minutes, plateau near 450°C at 35 minutes | Cold lengthens the session without preventing heating |
| Propane at full power | Over 400°C at around 12 minutes, about 435°C at 16 min 54 sec | A fast reading, but isolated and obtained differently |
Adding these times and dividing them would produce nothing useful. Outdoor temperatures, measurement points and pacing differ. The oven can exceed 400°C in varied conditions. The time at home will depend on the weather and the area of the stone being measured.
During the bake, stay close to the peel
One documented pizza bakes in about a minute after a stated launch at around 425°C. Another session, conducted in winter, is closer to two minutes. The first rotation comes after thirty seconds, followed by further turns at short intervals.
The rear burner colours one side more strongly. You must turn more often than with a flame wrapping around two or three sides. One sequence also shows that the limited space at the back can obstruct a brush when the oven is hot. This detail does not condemn the Koda 2, but it matters for maintenance.
Who will find it simpler
The Koda 2 suits a household that cooks outdoors, wants to stay with gas and seeks more room than a 30 cm stone. It is easier to place than the Koda 2 Pro and weighs much less than the Koda 2 Max.
We would rule it out for a balcony where rules or clearances remain uncertain, for indoor use, or for baking two pizzas at once. If the ritual of wood is part of the project, the Karu 2 answers a different desire.
Before ordering
- Measure the depth of the table and leave room for the hose.
- Check safety clearances around and above the oven.
- Check the propane connection supplied for France.
- Leave enough room for a peel and for turning a 35 cm pizza.
- Decide where a 16 kg appliance will be stored between uses.
Our conclusion
The Koda 2 offers the most balanced gas compromise among the models studied for a household. This preference comes from its available space and weight. The observations concern a few units and very different sessions. They say nothing reliable about the pace of a long run, consumption or lifespan, and do not constitute first-hand Four à Nu experience.
